Gil Elopre, a farmer, in Brgy. Nagrebcan, Bauang, La Union was walking in his ricefield when he accidentally found an owl. Advised by neighbors to surrender the stray owl to proper authorities, Gil’s daughter turned on to social media and found the DENR Action Center Hotline. The Action Center reported the incident to La Union Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, which coordinated the immediate rescue of the owl. The owl, a Barn owl (Tyto Alba) that measures 18.0 cm and weighs 2 kilos was healthy and has no injury. It was released on the same day it was rescued, May 11, 2020, in a forest area in Naguilian, La Union.
