The Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center is the site of the installation art “Ugnayan” by Luis “Junyee” Yee, Jr. The artwork which is made of recycled hardwood and metal represents the 21 member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and their unity and cooperation in pursuit of common goals in various fields. Senator Loren Legarda (not in photo) said the artwork is a reminder of “our ugnayan with Mother Earth and our duty to protect and conserve our ecosystems.” It was unveiled on the occasion of the International Day for Biodiversity on May 22, coinciding with the launching of the museum of Philippine biodiversity.  ###

Speaking at the gathering of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) in Makati City on Thursday, June 15, 2017, Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu assures foreign investors that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will continue to push for clean and green energy, promote proper management of water resources and solid waste, and ensure responsible mining.  Cimatu also told them that his agency remains committed to facilitating the ease of obtaining environmental clearances for investors. ###

In his presentation, Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu discussed the current thrusts of DENR in helping the business sector to achieve sustainable development during the Membership Luncheon Meeting organized by the European Chamber of Commerce at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Among the topics Cimatu discussed include clean energy and its influence over the agency’s role to move forward, facilitating efficient environmental clearances for investors, addressing the issue of landfills and dumpsites through waste-to-energy, and the state of the country’s water resources. ###

Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu walks past the bird cages during his ocular inspection of the wildlife rescue facility of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on June 9, 2017.  Located at the 22-hectare Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City, the center serves as a temporary shelter for animals either rescued from illegal wildlife trading or turned over by citizens, and undergo rehabilitation prior to release to their natural habitat.  To Cimatu’s left is BMB Director Theresa Mundita Lim. ###

National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) Executive Director Carmen Zubiaga (center) is joined by employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) during a tree planting activity for persons with disabilities (PWD) held on Saturday, June 10, at the Ninoy Aquino Park and Wildlife Center in Quezon City. The tree planting was held following the Freedom Walk staged by various PWD groups as part of the observance of the 119th Phlippine Independence and the 19th Philippine Environment Month  to raise public awareness of their human rights, including the right to clean air, clean water and quality environment. ###

Cimatu (center) leads the DENR family in recognizing former DENR secretaries and other officials whose able leadership has contributed to the achievement and realization of the agency’s mandate and vision during the 30th founding anniversary of the department on Friday in Quezon City.  Standing from left are: Victor O. In a show of support for DENR field offices, Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu hands a symbolic key to DENR- Region 11 Director Ruth M. Tawantawan to signify the turnover of brand new vehicles, consisting of 59 motorcycles (inset) and 18 trucks,  to DENR regional offices.  Tawantawan received the key on behalf of the all the regional directors on Friday on the occasion of the DENR’s 30th founding anniversary. ###

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu looks on as former beauty queen Lorraine Schuck (in light-colored dress) jumpstarts the nurturing of a Dau (Dracontomelon dao) seedling that she planted at the Heroes Park of the DENR during the agency’s 30th anniversary celebration on Friday. Schuck is the executive vice-president and one of the founders of Carousel Productions, which runs the Miss Earth and Miss Philippines Earth beauty pageants, and  partner of the DENR in promoting environmental programs and advocacies. Dau is a large native tree that provides shade to smaller trees. Also in photo are candidates of the Miss Philippines Earth 2017. ###
